Black Radish

Kind of a fun find, right?  I mean, the Whole Foods checker didn’t know the PLU code, so I took that as a sign it was rare to her as well.  This particular black radish came from the Big Island.  With it being the size of a large turnip, I decided to make chips out of it.

Using a mandoline to create uniform cuts, I fried up the slices in my Le Creuset Dutch Oven (will probably use a different ‘pot’ next time as this was a hard clean up).

Clean up aside, the end product was delicious.  I topped the chips with a fine Hawaiian Alaea Sea Salt.  I also decided to fry these radishes with sweet potatoes in the hopes of creating a sweet and spicy chip combo.

Mission accomplished.  Delicious chips were the appetizer of choice for a special dinner on the beach when the Supermoon was out.
